Ann Arbor Chevy Dealer Anticipates the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year- the Chevy Volt

Crispin Chevrolet is excited to inform Ann Arbor Chevrolet shoppers that the 2011 Chevrolet Volt has been named the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year.  The Chevy Volt is expected to arrive at the Detroit Chevy dealership for drivers to enjoy soon!

Anticipation for the Volt continues to grow at Crispin Chevrolet, and with good reason.  The Volt promises to be one of the most innovative vehicles to ever hit the road and the awards are already beginning to pour in.

These impressive features in the Volt all come courtesy of its powertrain.  As the world’s first electric vehicle with extended range capability, the Volt can travel 40 miles on a single charge, completely free of gas and emissions.

The range-extending generator then kicks in, producing electrical power for up to an additional 300 miles of travel.  With this system in place, the Volt’s range is without limit, because it can be powered by gas until owners can plug it back into a 120- or 240-volt outlet.

"As a result, a lot of the sound and fury that has surrounded the Volt's launch has tended to obscure a simple truth: This automobile is a game-changer," Motor Trend said in a story about the award.

Motor Trend is one of the largest automotive magazines in the United States and its annual Car of the Year Award is one of the most prestigious vehicle awards there is.  A vehicle is judge on six categories, design, engineering, efficiency, safety, value and how well the vehicle fulfills its intended function, in addition to that it must be a totally new or changed model for the 2011 model year.  The Car of the Year award has been given out yearly since Motor Trend was published in 1949.

Countless hours also went into making the Volt the most aerodynamic sedan in Chevrolet’s history. By lowering the Volt’s drag coefficient, Chevrolet engineers were able to increase its efficiency, as less energy is used to overcome air pressure. These improved aerodynamics contribute up to eight miles of electric range and 40 miles of extended range.

GM Vice Chairman for Global Product Operations Tom Stephens accepted the Motor Trend Car of the Year award at the General Motors wind tunnel in Warren, Mich., a locale likely chosen to highlight the Volt’s efficiency and aerodynamics.

“Chevrolet is truly honored to receive one of the world’s most coveted automotive awards,” said Stephens. “The Volt team has worked under extraordinary circumstances to produce this breakthrough vehicle.”

And that breakthrough vehicle is nearly available for Ann Arbor Chevrolet shoppers.
